Other people's history

Looking at Heritage Park, you can see that they worked so hard on this poster because of all the picture, both old and new. They gave a lot of information about Haritage Park's history, for institance the park dates back all the way to the 1850. It's also cool that they put that fact right on the front so it can catch people's eyes. I've never really been at Heritage Park and I didn't know what it was until last year... Well it is great to learn about something like this because it shows us that Corpis has history even if it is the smallest things.
now I love downtown! I love the history of it because it is so interesting to see the before and after. Here you can see that this is the 1940's time period. They explain the history and what was so interesting about this time. It really creates a good attention getter. On the bottom the string contects pictures together to provide a little timeline to understand everything which is a great thing to do especially when a lot of the students do not know that part of the history.
My project was finally (semi) completed. Seeing how hard it is to have class while taking A&P, it really is a challanging. Especially in the summer. It's my second week and today I have my 3rd test. Ugh. Dx stress overload. But it got done and I like it. It is hard to create things when there aren't as much information as your thought there would be. Yeah there was a lot of primary sources but it was just talking about little things like how in 2004-06 Driscoll Children Hosptial decided to put the 20 miles per hour around the area(Alameda from 7-5) I hope it is good enough. It was hard to do so much at one time. I have to study for like 4 hours everyday then use to rest of time to work on other stuff. I can't wait til school is over so I can only focus in A&P. I'll probably do better in that class.

2nd plaque

Alta Vista Hotel is probably the most interesting thing in Corpus Christi in my opinion. The thing that surprised me the most is that it was only living for 20 years. that had to suck on Ropes. He just wanted an impact on Corpus Christi (which he did) but he didn't last. Btw, it took forever to find this place. And then when we found it Jessa wanted us to park in someone else driveway. Gah. Hello  there should be a parking space with a historical marker. Just saying.

The struggles

This photos show improvement. Everything has been improved over times and so much has been accomplished. Of course the last picture hasn't happened yet but this is why Driscoll is under construction. Driscoll is yet again going under construction to improve their E.R.  The 2nd and 3rd picture is the construction site for building and adding 7 towers. Before the 8 towers, there were only two floors. Since Driscoll was becoming so popular during this time, they had to improve their hospital. The first picture on the other hand, is the first people working at Driscoll. Physicians, doctors, nurses, etc. Driscoll was first starting to become an hospital during this time. It was brand spanking new! From that to the new improve E.R. in just 60 years is pretty impressive.

----------------------------------------------
Now on to my struggles. Now that the new summer semester has started, I've found it so difficult to complete and study for my anatomy and physicology class while completing this exam. It's so hard. I can't go to the library because by time I get out of collegiate classes I go to SI tutoring and then straight to doing AP homework. It's so fustrating. Because I also have to practice SAT/ACTs since the AP class gets in the way of my SAT/ACT prep class. It's just so tiring that I have to do everything at home. There is no time during school to do it. It's been making me feel so overloaded. AND ITS ONLY BEEN 3 DAYS. Well I'm getting it done. My mom is helping me pass surveys out to her fellow employees and my friends have dedicated their time so I can interview them about their experiences as a patient at Driscoll. So it should be all good by tomorrow afternoon ^_^

Driscoll's plaque

After worrying about the people behind me wondering what that 'dumb teenager' was doing, I took a happy selfie with the historical marker for Driscoll Children's Hospital. I walk back and forth to this place every week and until last month, I didn't see this marker here. I believe Driscoll didn't get this marker from the city until Driscoll's 60th year anniversary which was just pass year. I've been volunteering here for 3 years and I know this marker was not here. Anyway, I took a closer picture for others to read it.
It just talks about Clara Driscoll and her life and how Driscoll came about. Then it explains how Driscoll has grown in the 60th years. So much as happen in this short time. Driscoll is the main supporter for children in South Texas. This all happened because of a dream Clara Driscoll started.

New Discoveries

Today, after following Stephanie with some errands, we went to the library and met up with some friends. At first, I didn't think I was gonna find anything. Boy, was I wrong. Two, one-inch folders all about Driscoll from 1945 til 2011. The discovery was pretty interesting. I actually found out how Clara's money was put into the children's hospital. Found lots of good pictures for my website and great, important articles about Driscoll. Also got a lot of details about Clara Driscoll herself. Thinking about going back there again either this week/weekend or next week for get some more pictures/articles.
**we took this picture to prove that we actually went here and did work. This picture explains itself.

Driscoll Museum

ThyIf you have never went to Driscoll hospital before, you'll never guess that there is an meseum inside. It shows the employees the history of Clara Driscoll and the hospital. I've been there plenty of times especially since I was doing Jolly Trolly every Tuesday last summer. Volunteering here really has it's perks.
Finding this picture really changed my view of the hospital. It looks exactly the same well, now it's taller. But nothing has moved. Then looking in the back, there is no houses! Living beside this place for 6 years, it was the first thing I noticed.
I know that the hosptial doesn't look like this now but it is under construction to look like this by the summer I believe? So much has happened in 60 years. So many children are admitted every year and many counties rely on Clara Drsicoll's ideal.

After being amazed by that one picture, I divided to look around some more. There was some pretty unless information in there reguarding Driscoll today but information I gather showed that Clara Driscoll choose this place because since her family own so much land and her good will, she could create a hosptial that will turn down no one. 9 years after her death, her dream came true. Ha, one of the employees said that Clara's spirit is still there, in the basement, guarding her dream. Anyway, I hope to interview some employees there and ask about their experiences and even some old patients. The library in the hosptial could also do some help, but I don't know how much help it could so since I haven't been there yet.

Buc days

After attending the Buc Days Celebration, I ran into one of my friends. Asking her if she is having fun, she started to share about her old times at the carnival. She shared with me the old times with "sharing... jokes, laughs, smiles, [and] memories". She remembers getting on one of the most scarest ride at the time. She explains the emotions she was feeling but had to endure then because her friend bugged her to get on. She was scared, her heart was beating fast, and sweat started to come down from her forehead as she ask why she signed up to do this. Watching the people scream either in enjoyment or of complete fear, she noticed that she'll be nexted. As the people walk off the ride and the guy checks her wristband, she sits in panic. First she can't even get the seatbelt on. After getting help from the stranger in front of her, she calms down a little but is still panicking. The ride starts. Her friend looks at her with glee. She looks at her friend when hatred. As physics is put at the test, she scream in fear at first but is soon changed into pure happiness. Screaming on the top of her lungs, she frowns at the end of the end. Telling her friend to do it again.  But after looking at her friend, she realized that her friend didn't like it as much as she thought she would. The friend runs out and throws up in the closest trash can. She concludes her story by non stop laughing and she soon cannot breathe. I guess Buc Days do have a lot of memeries just for two weeks of entertainment. It gives opportunities to people for laughs and good times in their life when many things are going wrong. Every year we know that Buc Days are coming up and we look forward to having fun with our friends. This isn't  just corpus history. This is around the nueces county history. Sometimes even people from different counties come to join corpus with fun and new memories.
